Have you ever spent time in your
local court? For most people, the only
exposure they have to the Pennsylvania
judicial system is in their local
magisterial district court. This important
level in our justice system has many
different facets, is very unique and
often misunderstood. In his courtroom
located in Pleasant Hills, Magisterial
District Judge Thatcher presides over
many different types of cases which
include traffic violations, initial criminal
proceedings, civil disputes, and landlord-
tenant issues.
Join Judge Thatcher at the Jefferson Hills Municipal Center
Community Room to learn more about the magisterial district court
and gain insight into the procedures for many common situations,
such as: What happens when I am stopped by a police officer or get
a traffic violation? What happens at a summary trial? What is the
process if someone I know gets arrested? What should I do if I get a
notice from PennDOT? How do I file a civil complaint? What are the
possible penalties if my child has to go in front of the District Judge?
What if I disagree with the Judge’s decision? We hope you will join
us to meet your Magisterial District Judge and learn more about the
court serving our community as the first level in the Pennsylvania
Unified Judicial System.
*Judge Thatcher is not permitted to provide legal advice or speak about specific cases.
