Jefferson Hills Intermediate School CHRISTOPHER VERY, PRINCIPAL Real Heroes are Drug Free! J efferson Hills Intermediate School students and staff, dressed in red, entered school on Monday, October 22, 2018, ready to take a stand against drugs and alcohol as this day marked the beginning of the week-long Red Ribbon Campaign. This annual October celebration aims to empower our children to take a united stand while raising awareness about the harmful effects of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs. The Red Ribbon message was reinforced all week long with daily fun-filled themes, a school-wide assembly, a classroom door-decorating contest, and the opportunity to take a “pledge,” which has been proudly displayed in our school’s cafeteria where it will remain throughout the entire school year. However, JHIS saved the best for last and hosted their first “Real Heroes are Drug Free” Luncheon. This culminating activity provided some of our “Everyday Heroes” (First Responder families and family members of JHIS serving in the Armed Forces) the opportunity to visit our school and interact with students during lunch and recess. Our students showed their support and recognized these brave men and women by 48 WEST JEFFERSON HILLS wearing red, white, and blue, as well as decorating the school cafeteria with posters thanking our special visitors for all that they do to protect us and keep us safe. We would like to extend our sincerest appreciation and gratitude to everyone that assisted in making this week-long celebration possible for our students, especially the JHIS PTA, TJ Arts, Mr. Bradford, Mrs. Bradford, Mrs. Solomon, Mrs. Neeley, and all of the “Heroes” that were able to join us for the “Real Heroes are Drug Free!” Luncheon.
