BOR OU G H OF J E FFE RS ON H I L LS NE WS est Jefferson Hills A Holiday Message from Our Mayor, Jan Cmar Since becoming mayor two years ago, I have had the privilege to represent the Borough at various civic functions and work with many of you on community projects. At these times I am struck by the goodness in our community and the willingness of our citizens to work together to live up to our reputation as a great place to live, work and raise our families. Last April over 125 of our residents participated in Earth Day as part of the KEEP PA BEAUTIFUL campaign to clear litter from our neighborhoods and roads. As you will see in this issue, throughout the year some neighborhoods have adopted their roads and schedule regular cleanup mornings. We care about each other, and it showed when our local communities recently supported a color run race sponsored by our Thomas Jefferson High School students to help a local sick child. Our residents are currently supporting our Police Department’s annual Holiday toy drive by bringing an unwrapped toy to the Borough Building by December 15. Many of you volunteer throughout the year on our Borough fall festival, Christmas holiday celebration, Fish for Fun days, golf outing, and library programs. Additionally, this year we are grateful for the generous support by our community of the Jefferson Hill’s Library/Friends of the Library LOVE YOUR LIBRARY campaign. Thank you for your great work to all of our dedicated Borough volunteers—our boards and committees, fire companies, ladies auxiliaries, EMS personnel, Historical Society, Friends of the Library, Chamber of Commerce, coaches, public servants and everyone who supports our efforts by attending our programs and events. In Jefferson Hills, your mayor, council, police force and Borough staff are fortunate to serve an active, giving and talented community. Again, we thank you for the cooperation that makes Jefferson Hills special. From all of us, Happy Holidays and Best Wishes for a healthy and prosperous 2017! 38 West Jefferson Hills Learn the Best Way to Report a Streetlight Outage Our local power companies have requested that Jefferson Hills residents contact them directly rather than our Police Department or the Borough administrative offices to report a street light outage. The reason for this request is simply that the person who reports the outage directly to the utility will be able to answer more specific questions (e.g., Is the light blinking), resulting in a quicker and more efficient response. Here is information from First Energy Corporation: Duquesne Light’s telephone number for reporting outages is 1-888-393-7000.
