Kindergarten Registration is Open for Future Jaguars!
Kindergarten registration for the 2026 – 2027 school year is open! Once registered, you will receive important kindergarten updates and information throughout the summer for transition programs.
Children entering kindergarten must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2026. Students must reside within the West Jefferson Hills School District and provide the following documents prior to the start of the school year: n Two proofs of residency n Current immunization records n Birth certificate
Families are encouraged to begin the online registration process now, even if all required documents are not yet available.
Kindergarten in the West Jefferson Hills School District is a full-day program.

Stepping Back in Time with George Washington
Our second grade students at McClellan Elementary and fourth grade students at Jefferson Hills Intermediate School had the opportunity to step back in time during a special visit from the Braddock Battlefield History Center.“ George Washington” shared stories from his early experiences during the French and Indian War, including his travels to Fort LeBoeuf, Jumonville Glen, Fort Necessity, and the Battle of Monongahela, while answering thoughtful student questions along the way. WJHSD is excited to continue this partnership with the History Center and provide students with engaging, hands-on educational experiences that bring history to life.

We were excited to welcome our newest little learners to Kindergarten Screening & Signing Day! This special day marked the first step in each child’ s exciting journey at West Jefferson Hills School District. Future Jaguars had the chance to meet new friends, meet some of the building staff, and officially become part of the Jaguar family!
The day was filled with smiles, fun activities, and lots of school spirit as we celebrated the Class of 2038! We loved meeting our future leaders, readers, and creators.

Spring Has Hatched:
Inside Mrs. Gigliotti’ s Chick Classroom Tradition
For the past five years, the sound of chirping chicks has become a cherished sign of spring in Mrs. Gigliotti’ s first and second grade science classroom at Gill Hall Elementary School. What started as a hands-on science lesson has grown into a meaningful tradition that brings students, staff, and families together through the wonder of life cycles and learning.
Each year, students observe eggs incubating and hatching into baby chicks as part of their study of animal life cycles. The experience connects directly to classroom learning, especially second grade CKLA life cycle units, giving students a memorable, real-world science experience.
The project has become a community effort, with teachers and staff helping care for the chicks and local supporters donating eggs. In recent years, Michael and Wendy Vario of SweetWaterFarmPGH have generously provided the eggs, helping continue the tradition.
After several weeks in the classroom, the chicks are adopted by Gill Hall families, allowing students to watch them grow beyond the classroom. The project not only teaches science concepts but also creates lasting memories and a deeper appreciation for nature and life cycles.
