Explore different themes through
stories, songs, crafts, and a snack. For
children ages 3½ to 6 years old, with
or without a caregiver. No registration
necessary.
Baby Book Nook: Every Wednesday
through Nov. 20, 10:30 a.m. & 11:30 a.m.
Nursery and action rhymes, songs,
books, and so much more. For children
ages birth to 2 years old, with a caregiver.

Tot Time: Every Thursday through
Nov. 21, at 10:30 a.m.
Learn and grow with stories, songs,
finger plays, fun activities, and a snack.
For children ages 2 to 3½ years old, with
a caregiver. No registration necessary.
ADULT PROGRAMS & EVENTS
Scrabble: Every Monday from 11 a.m.
to 1 p.m. in the Adult Reading Area
Visit the library for an enjoyable game
of Scrabble. No need to register; just
show up with a friend or two and have
some fun. Two game boards are available
and will be set up on the tables in the
Adult Reading Area during this time
for anyone to use on a first-come, first-
served basis.

THROUGH THE
FARMERS MARKET
PROGRAM FOR
ELIGIBLE SENIORS
Allegheny County residents 60 years
and older may be eligible to receive a
set of four checks for a total of $20 to
purchase locally grown fresh fruits and
vegetables through the Senior Farmers
Market Nutrition Program, administered
by the Department of Human Services
Area Agency on Aging (AAA).
Checks will be distributed by the AAA
senior center network on a first-come,
first-served basis. The checks can be
spent through Nov. 30 on produce
grown in Pennsylvania at participating
farmers markets. Those who are eligible
but unable to get to a senior center may
designate a proxy to pick up and redeem
the checks. There is a limit of two proxy
forms per person.
To be eligible, you must: be an
Allegheny County resident; be age 60 or
older before Dec. 31, 2019; not live in a
residential facility providing meals; and
meet income requirements ($23,107
annual gross income for a one-person
household and $31,284 for a two-person
household).

Pleasant Hills Community Day will
be held August 10 at Mowry Park. The
parade starts at 11 a.m., and will travel
from Pleasant Hills Presbyterian Church,
Old Clairton Road, to Gill Hall Road,
Mowry Drive and conclude in Mowry
Park. Opening ceremonies at Mowry Park
immediately follow the parade.
There will be food, games, vendors,
and local on-stage entertainment
all day! The evening concludes
with fireworks beginning about

SOUTH HILLS SENIOR
SOFTBALL LOOKING
FOR MEMBERS
The South Hills Senior Softball
League registration has been open for
its 2019 season. The league is for players
55 years old and up. (Players who are
54 can join at any time during the year
they turn 55.) Information and forms
for registration are on the league’s
website at seniorsoftballleague.com.
The league holds practices and games
through August or early September at
fields in South Park and elsewhere in the
South Hills.
“You’ll feel like a kid again when you
play,” says Doug Houston, commissioner
of the nonprofit group. “The average
player is about 66, and our softball rules
are age-appropriate.”
