ANNUAL NETWORKING BREAKFAST AND PROGRAM On Friday, April 20, 2018 the annual breakfast and program was hosted at Jefferson Hospital. The program presented information about improvements to the Emergency Room at the facility. Below is a proposed sketch of the improvements to be made to the exterior of the hospital.
Dr. Richard Sullivan, MD the Medical Director of Emergency Medicine and Dr. Kip Jennifer, MD Assistant Emergency Medicine Director and EMS Medical Coordinator, spoke about the improvements to be made to the emergency room facilities. The project will be a 21 million dollar investment. The heliport will be relocated to the roof as seen in the picture above. The number of examining rooms will increase from thirty-seven to forty-nine. The rooms will take into account the needs not only of the patient but the families, too. The rooms are designed to provide both privacy and comfort. The medical staff will provide a collaborative approach with the patient at the center of the care. The emergency room at Jefferson Hospital, part of the Allegheny Health Network, is a busy unit and the expansion and upgrades will make it even better!
Next, Shauna Frantz, LCSW, a licensed clinical social worker, gave an overview of community training topics. These topics included mental health, first aid, stress management, mindfulness, anxiety, depression, grief, and suicide. The training topics can be presented at the hospitals, schools, libraries, local boroughs, etc.
Lastly, Kimberly Mehta, PharmD, MPH who is the AHN Director of Medication Safety and Regulatory spoke about the opioid crisis. The emphasis is on prevention, treatment, and recovery. The state has a website called PA Opioid Data Dashboard which includes very helpful information. By the way, Mrs. Mehta gave her presentation while eight months pregnant so it was a good thing she was at the hospital!
Thank you to all the presenters for giving the community updates on the facility and pertinent issues.
NEW FRESH THYME FARMERS MARKET DEBUTS IN PITTSBURGH Fresh Thyme Farmers Market, a growing specialty grocer focused on healthy, organic options, has expanded into Pennsylvania with two Pittsburgh-area stores – Bridgeville( 1155 Washington Pike) and Pleasant Hills( 665 Clairton Blvd).
“ As part of our commitment to bringing healthy, natural and organic products to all, we’ ve been eager to expand to Pennsylvania,” said Fresh Thyme President and CEO Chris Sherrell.“ From stocking local products, hiring residents and partnering with community nonprofits, we’ re fully committed to serving the Pittsburgh community.”
What makes the stores unique is that they don’ t follow a traditional grocery store design. The brand intentionally kept the footprint small, approximately 28,000 sq. ft. and store fixtures low enough to make sure aisles are easy to navigate. In fact, the stores are so easy to navigate that the aisles are not numbered and there is no store map.
Fresh Thyme also boasts an impressive private label assortment featuring 1,500 products ranging from fresh produce, body care, vitamins, organic milk and teas. Shoppers with food allergies and specialty diets will also find ample and affordable options available.
Be sure to head out and see everything Fresh Thyme has to offer!
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on June 12, 2018 at 3:30 in the afternoon.
