Happy Spring! Thank you to all residents who took the time to share their opinions
through the recent community center survey that was offered on the Borough’s website
and via postal mail. The response was incredible! A full summary will be posted to the
Borough website soon, but I would like to highlight some of the themes discovered by
the community’s survey answers.
Although many residents stated that now is not the time for construction of a
community center, there were several reasons as to why residents felt this way about
the imminent creation of a community center. Many people stated they did not want to
build a community center if it required raising the millage in the Borough. Others stated
that the proximity to other fitness clubs in the area, as well as the low cost offered by
some of these clubs, offset their desire for a community center. Finally, there were others
who stated that the Borough needs to maintain and update our existing amenities
before building something else.
Regarding this final reason, maintaining and updating existing amenities, I have
excellent news to share with you and your household. Throughout February and early
March, the Public Works Department worked diligently to renovate the clubhouse at
Gill Hall Park. The refurbishment includes an updated kitchen with new appliances,
cabinetry, and serving window; fresh paint with updated light fixtures; an overhauled
and re-dug sewer system; and the exterior will be completed before Summer 2020.
Please contact the Borough administrative offices for rental information at 412-655-7760,
or www.jeffersonhills.net.
In the coming months, the Borough will repave the tennis courts and install a new
tee ball field at Andrew Reilly Park. Additionally, handicapped parking will be expanded
near the baseball fields and amphitheater at Reilly Park, and a new shelter is being
erected in place of one that had outlived its usefulness. Finally, a new concession stand
will be built at Beedle Park as well.
The Borough will continue endeavoring to make our community safe and prosperous.
If there is anything that I can do for you or your household, please don’t hesitate to
contact me.
Sincerely,
John P. Stinner
