BASEBALL TEAM GIVES
TO LOCAL FAMILIES
The TJ 9U baseball team, with the help
of their school, helped support five local
families with Christmas gifts this holiday
season. It was a great learning experience
for the kids to understand that some
families are in need, and they wanted to
pitch in and help.
CHABAD TO CELEBRATE
ANNUAL WOMEN’S
SPRING EVENT
The 13th Annual Women’s Spring
Event at Chabad of the South Hills will
take place on Tuesday, May 14. The
guest speaker will be Master Herbalist
and author of the book “Moodtopia:
Tame Your Moods, De-Stress, and
Finding Balance Using Herbal Remedies,
Aromatherapy and More,” Sara Chana
Silverstein.
There will be a light dinner, silent

2019 CALL FOR GRANTS
WOMEN of Southwestern PA, Inc.
(Women Organized to Mentor, Empower
and Network) is accepting funding
requests from local nonprofit 501(c)(3)
charitable and community organizations.
Submission deadline is May 18, and
decisions will be made in June. Visit

In 2018, WOMEN returned $53,580
to western PA organizations for specific
projects. The money was funded by
profits from the annual Symphony of
Food—A Chef ’s Showcase dinner held
each year in January.
To qualify, an organization must
provide service in Allegheny, Beaver,
Washington, Fayette or Greene counties,
have IRS 501(c)(3) status, receive no
federal funds for the specific projects,
and benefit women’s, children’s or family
interests.
Applicants are asked to go to the
website, womenofswpa.org, print
and complete the Grant Application
Form, attach a copy of nonprofit status,
specify the amount requested (up to
$2,500), and send to WOMEN of
Southwestern PA, Inc., c/o Philanthropy

Whether you have vacant lots plagued

The 15th annual Keep Pennsylvania
Beautiful Great American Cleanup of PA
can help get you started. Through May
31, thousands of Pennsylvania families
and friends will partake in litter and illegal
dump cleanups, beautification projects
like tree and flower plantings, recycling
collections and education programs.
Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful partners
with PennDOT, the Department of
Environmental Protection, and Keep
America Beautiful to provide free trash
bags, gloves, and safety vests to registered
participants, as supplies last. During Let’s
Pick It Up PA—every day from April 13
through May 6—cleanups registered
with the Great American Cleanup of
PA are eligible to take their trash to
participating landfills free of charge or for
a reduced rate. ■
