throughout the entrepreneurship process,
culminating with a final pitch event at the
end of the year for possible funding.
The new Thomas Jefferson High School
has been designed to offer students
creative and innovative learning spaces to
extend, collaborate, research and explore
in greater depth the content and skills
they are learning in their classrooms. The
furniture selection has been chosen to
offer flexibility and collaborative seating
arrangements for the new classrooms.
The Media Center/ Library, Hallway,
SGIs (Small Group Instruction Areas)
and Student Center (previously referred
to as a cafeteria) are the main areas of
the building which will be available for
students to work and collaborate with
each other and their teachers throughout
the day. We are planning to have the
Student Center open for breakfast and
continuing throughout the day, so it is
not limited to only lunch periods. This
area will also be used for many district
events throughout the year such as
community meetings, fundraisers and
student activities. On the third floor, the
Science classrooms will have sections of
the room dedicated to laboratory use,
and there will also be two outside terraces
that can be used for various experiments,
activities and science labs. As you enter
the front of the building, the area farthest
to the left of the academic wing will be
referred to as the Unified Arts wing, and
it will include all of our state-of-the-art
Theater, Art, Music, Industrial Technology
and TJTV Studio classrooms. The new
theater will be one of the best Performing
Arts venues in Western Pennsylvania with
the latest technology, sound and lighting
equipment available to our students, staff
and community.
Over the next several months, there will
be many new and exciting opportunities
for our high school students. The district
staff, administrators and board members
continue to plan and make improvements
based on the district’s needs and core
values. We are committed to improving
the educational opportunities and
experiences for all of our students as they
strive for continued success in achieving
their future academic and career goals
and aspirations.
