This issue of IN COMMUNITY MAGAZINE features many of our citizens making a volunteer
commitment to serve our community – Borough Council, volunteer firefighters, ladies auxiliaries,
our JHEMS volunteers, all of the newly appointed Committee and Board members, the Friends
of the Library and local businesses. The list can go on to include all of our great residents whose
unrecognized daily contributions deserve the honor that the Borough of Jefferson Hills recently
received as “Best Town in Pennsylvania for Young Families.”
As your new Mayor and a former member of Council, I want to thank everyone who contributes
to the welfare of the Borough of Jefferson Hills. In particular, I want to recognize our Police Chief,
Gene Roach and his staff for their tireless work in keeping our community safe. We congratulate
our newest Police officers, Cory Brunetti and Ryan Pokorny, who have successfully completed their
one-year probation period and have been officially appointed to the level of “Patrolman D” in the
Jefferson Hills Police Department.

We also congratulate Sergeant Richard Bonacci on receiving a recognition award for his efforts in
reorganizing, coordinating and revamping the Police Department Evidence Room & Procedure.
State Representative Richard Saccone, along with Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner
Frank Noonan, presented the award to Sergeant Bonacci at Representative Saccone’s annual
Recognition Dinner for Emergency Service Responders in his district on January 31, 2014.
I would like to thank Public Works Director, Tom Lovell and his staff for their efforts in keeping our
roads cleared and repaired during this past very challenging winter and last summer’s storms.
Allegheny County, including Jefferson Hills, was recently added for inclusion in the Presidential
Disaster Declaration signed by President Obama because of damage to public property and
infrastructure sustained during the storms and flooding that occurred in June and July 2013.
The Borough is eligible for reimbursement for emergency work, as well as permanent restoration
of damaged facilities related to this disaster. Repairs and permanent restoration work is likely to
continue into the spring of 2015. All costs will be borne by FEMA and PEMA.
The Borough of Jefferson Hills is a great place to live, work and raise our families. I’m proud to
serve as your Mayor and look forward to upcoming days of continued work together!
Sincerely,
Jan Cmar, Mayor
