KDKA Meteorologist Dennis Bowman visited McClellan
Elementary School on Thursday, January 30, 2014, as part of
his “Dennis Bowman’s Classroom Weather” program.
Bowman meshed entertainment and education in a fun
and enjoyable experience for the students. The 50-minute
program discussed what causes weather and taught students
safety tips in the event of a severe weather event. Students
even got to witness the creation of a live tornado right in
the McClellan gymnasium. Using boiling water, dry ice, a fan
and a hair dryer, Bowman showed students how a tornado is
formed. Students were wowed by the presentation.
One parent said on the district’s Facebook page (http://
facebook.com/westjeffersonhills) that her kids “came home
VERY excited about this tornado! They loved the assembly!”
After the program, McClellan Elementary School Principal
Justin Liberatore presented Bowman with a check for $850
to be donated to the KDKA Turkey Fund. Students raised the
money to help KDKA provide Thanksgiving dinners to families
in need.
McClellan Elementary School and West Jefferson Hills
School District would like to thank Dennis Bowman for
visiting our district and educating our students on weather
safety. We look forward to seeing him again soon.
