year kicks off, Gill
Hall Elementary and
McClellan Elementary
Schools are looking forward to
starting this new chapter with
many new faces. We look forward
to welcoming a new class of
kindergarten students into our
buildings, and all of the new
families moving into the district.
Over the summer we held our Kindergarten Orientation, as well as a Back to School
BBQ so all our families have the chance to meet before the year gets started.
Other than students, there will be a number of new adult faces in the building as
well. With the student population continuing to grow, we added a few additional
classroom teachers in each building. New for the 2019-2020 school year, we have
added a sixth ENCORE class. Now our students will get Physical Education, Library,
Art, Music and Technology on a six-day rotation (days 1-2-3-4-5-6). In the Technology
course, students will be exploring STEAM, coding, G Suite, and digital citizenship topics.
In addition to going to a “numbered day” system from a “lettered day” system, we
made a few more changes to our small-group instructional model. One of the District
Core Values focuses on Personalization/Customization System stating, “We believe that
the future of education will be characterized by a customized and highly personalized
system where the instructional methodologies are optimized for the needs of each
learner.” This year, students in grades one and two will have a daily fifty minute PLT
(Personalized Learning Time). During this time teachers can work with students on
remediation or acceleration, as well as social-emotional growth.
Lastly, there will be some physical additions to each building. If you’ve driven past
Gill Hall recently, you know there is a lot of work going on there. At McClellan, the PTA
helped with some minor improvements as well. We look forward to embracing all of
these changes for the betterment of our students, families, staff and community. Many
exciting opportunities await us in the 2019-2020 school year! #WErTJ #HEREWEGROW
