2017 Veterans Appreciation Day Nov . 11 , 8 a . m . to 2 p . m . This year will mark the third annual Veterans Appreciation Day at Presque Isle State Park in honor of our veterans and active service members . The event will be held at the Rotary Pavilion on Veterans Day . Breakfast is from 8 to 9:30 a . m ., free for veterans and a $ 5 donation for non-veterans . Proceeds will benefit the collection of items for our troops coordinated by the Presque Isle Partnership . A ceremony will follow from 10 to 11 a . m . including speakers and a ceremonial salute . Tours of the TREC will be provided by park naturalists from 1 to 2 p . m . Also being provided for veterans is a voucher to see a discounted film on the Big Green Screen , and a 20 percent discount at Presque Isle Gallery and Gifts at the TREC .
In November , the Presque Isle Partnership will be supporting our troops through a collection of donated items , to be sent at a later date . Individuals may drop off donations to the main lobby at the TREC from 10 a . m . to 6 p . m . daily . Donations will also be accepted in the lobby of the Erie Maritime Museum near the gift shop , Monday through Saturday , from 9 a . m . to 5 p . m .
DiscoverE – Bats Nov . 15 , 10:30 to 11:30 a . m . Explore the world of bats with a park naturalist at the TREC . Children ages 3-5 with an accompanying parent or adult are invited . We will sit for a story , create a craft to take home , and participate in batty activities ! Fee is $ 3 per child payable in advance or at the door with exact change or check . ScienceGO ! Nov . 30 , 6 to 7 p . m . Science , Technology , Engineering , and Mathematics with an environmental emphasis ! Students will learn how STEM is applied to environmental situations and how it is relevant to our understanding of the natural world . Fun , interactive , free STEM programs for grades 7-12 at the TREC . A different topic will be presented during each programming time . Lake Erie Shipwrecks and Maritime Tales Nov . 17 , 7 to 8:30 p . m . Lake Erie is a murky graveyard for an astonishing number of ships . Discover the history behind our great lake and hear the tales of the most notorious wrecks of our region in this lecture at the TREC . No registration required . No fee .
Thanksgiving on the Isle Nov . 18 , noon to 2 p . m . Before you feast , walk ! Join park naturalists for a 2-mile nature hike focused on wild turkey and the cranberry plant . Meet at the Presque Isle Lighthouse parking area . No registration required . No fee .
Climate Change and Penn ’ s Woods - What
Does the Future Hold ? Nov . 20 , 10 a . m . to noon Visit the TREC for a presentation on climate change by Greg Czarnecki . As the climate changes , plants and animals have three options : adapt , move , or die . This is already beginning to happen in many places across the globe , including here in Pennsylvania . This presentation will look at the current and projected impacts of climate change on our native species and forests , and the challenges and opportunities conservationists face in helping to ensure their survival . No fee or registration . Czarnecki is a climate change and research coordinator for the Pennsylvania DCNR . He currently oversees the development of DCNR ’ s climate change mitigation and adaptation plan .
Morning Sidewalk Trail Stroll Nov . 22 , 9 to 11 a . m . Start the holidays off with a nice morning walk at Presque Isle on Sidewalk Trail . Meet at the lighthouse parking lot for this 2-mile hike and view wildlife along the way . Dress for the weather , no fee or registration .

ALZHEIMER ’ S ASSOCIATION GREATER PENNSYLVANIA CHAPTER CAREGIVER CONFERENCE IN ERIE
The Alzheimer ’ s Association Greater Pennsylvania Chapter will hold its Fall Caregiver Conference in Erie . This year ’ s conference , “ Empowerment for Caregivers ,” is Friday , Nov . 17 , at the Erie Art Museum from 8:45 a . m . to 2:30 p . m .
The Caregiver Conference , through a daylong support and educational program , will allow caregivers of those with Alzheimer ’ s or related dementia an opportunity to connect with both their peers and health professionals .
The Alzheimer ’ s Association Greater Pennsylvania Chapter is excited to welcome featured keynote speaker Janet Edmunson , M . Ed . Edmunson is the president of JME Insights and has over 30 years of leadership experience with Georgia-Pacific and Blue Cross Blue Shield . She will also be sharing her personal experiences as a caregiver to her husband , Charles .
