PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES AT THE WESTERN ALLEGHENY COMMUNITY LIBRARY
Mango + “ Little Pim ” = Language Learning for Little Learners
The library ’ s online language learning software , Mango Languages , is now even better with the addition of LITTLE PIM ! This adorable cartoon panda teaches words and phrases to the youngest language learners using videos and interactive practice .
Mango featuring Little Pim is free to access from the library . You can either create an account with an email address or use the service as a guest . To access Little Pim , just click on the “ Kids ” section of the website .
Little Pim teaches a variety of languages , including English ( ESL ), French , Spanish , Hebrew , Italian , Japanese , Chinese ( Mandarin ), Arabic , German and Russian . Please note : While you can create an account online and then download the Mango app to use Mango Languages on a mobile device , Little Pim is not available in the app version ; access on a PC or laptop .

Have you stopped by the library lately ? Lots of exciting things are happening — including a major construction project — so pardon the dust ! But once the dust settles , it will reveal the new Children ’ s space and expanded Teen Zone ! In the meantime , check out the updates from Youth Services and stop by when you ’ re in the area .
Wii Consoles Wanted
Have an old Wii console collecting dust ? Donate it to the library ! We ’ ll be using them for a teen services training and for a special Teen Maker Lab !
Drop off at the library any time during open hours .
E-waste Collection Drop off your e-Waste items in the designated box in the library café during open hours . Inkjet cartridges and mobile devices are particularly desired .

“ Indoor-Outdoor Tour ” at the Walker-
Ewing Log House Tuesday , May 15 , 7 p . m . The Indoor tour will showcase the two-story , five-room Log House , which has been lovingly maintained by the Pioneers West Historical Society since it was received as a gift in 1998 from Mrs . Jane Grace , a descendant of the Walkers and the Ewings . The Outdoor tour will showcase the plants , the majestic tall trees , and the wildlife that make their home on the grounds of the Log House , as well as early photos taken outside the house . Mattress Factory Pass Now Available
Have you checked out the library pass yet ? Thanks to a partnership with the Mattress Factory , the library is offering a museum pass that you can borrow for a week with your library card . Use the pass to receive FREE and unlimited access to all three of the Mattress Factory ’ s buildings , plus discounts at the MF Shop and Café . Simply present the library pass to the front desk on your next visit for free admission for up to three adults and all children under the age of 18 .
Botanic Garden Pass Also Available You can also explore Western PA ’ s first outdoor botanic garden using the other FREE experience pass from the library ! Open since April 2015 , Pittsburgh Botanic Garden has transformed 60 acres of land once mined , logged , and farmed into a flourishing garden for all to enjoy . Three miles of groomed trails take visitors through gardens , woodlands , and attractions including the award-winning Lotus Pond , the peaceful Margaret Lawrence Simon Dogwood Meadow , and the historic Heritage Homestead .
Overdrive Updates
Overdrive recently released a new version of its library eBook app , featuring a cute cartoon girl with a bookmark bow named Libby . What ’ s more , it has several improvements that give it an edge over the classic app .
1 . Instant toggle between “ Library ” and “ Shelf .” This quick , easy navigation makes it well worth it .
2 . Multiple library card option . For families sharing one device , this is a really nice feature .
3 . Quick click on current read . That audiobook you were listening to is front and center , no matter where you are in the app . AND it ’ ll keep playing in the background while you look for and check out the next title in the series .
4 . Speedy Gonzales ! The response and refresh speeds seem much improved with Libby .
5 . Automatic downloads . Note that this feature can be turned off for larger downloads or be reserved for Wi-Fi connection only , for those who are out & about and don ’ t want to use up their mobile data .
