A New Vision for Education in McMurray

Huntington Learning Center is Taking Personalized Learning to the Next Level by Launching a Micro School

A

new chapter in education is unfolding as Huntington Learning Center introduces its innovative Micro School, a school designed to provide highly personalized instruction in a small, supportive environment.
At the heart of this exciting new program is Lorie Simko Strennen, a respected educator who has spent more than 30 years helping students achieve academic success as the director of the Huntington Learning Center in McMurray. Under her leadership, the center has earned honors including the Commitment to Student Success Award, Top Exam Prep Award, Opportunity Through Education Award, and recognition as one of the Top Ten Centers in the Huntington system nationwide.
Lorie holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Mathematics from Penn State University and a Master of Science in Education, Reading Specialist, from Duquesne University. Her strong academic background, combined with decades of handson experience, has helped thousands of students build skills, confidence and a lifelong love of learning.
The Huntington Micro School offers a fresh approach to education, one that prioritizes the individual needs of each student. Key features include:
3 A 6:1 student-to-teacher ratio for maximum individualized attention.
3 Customized learning plans tailored to each student’ s strengths and goals.
3 Executive functioning support, including time management, organization and study skills.
3 A structured, distraction-free environment that promotes focus and confidence.
3 Flexible pacing, allowing students to truly master concepts before moving forward.
This model is especially beneficial for students who may feel overlooked in traditional classrooms or who thrive in smaller, more personalized settings.
The Micro School will also offer a full-day kindergarten program, providing a positive and supportive start to a child’ s
educational journey. Early foundational skills are critical for long-term academic success, and a personalized approach helps students build confidence, strong learning habits, and a love of learning from the very beginning.
The launch of the Micro School reflects Lorie’ s vision for the future of education, one where every student is truly known, supported and challenged.
“ Every child learns differently. When we meet students where they are and give them the individualized attention they deserve, their confidence and success follow,” Lorie explains.
With limited enrollment and a focus on individualized instruction, the Huntington Micro School in McMurray is poised to become a transformative option for families seeking a more personalized, supportive educational experience.
