Scheuermann’s Disease (also known
as juvenile kyphosis) is characterized
by uneven growth in the vertebrae,
causing them to form a wedge-shape.
Typical spines have natural curves of
20 to 40 degrees. People with steeper
curves—from 40 to 45 degrees—are said
to suffer from kyphosis. Scheuermann’s
Disease takes kyphosis to the extreme:
sufferers have spinal curvatures of up to
75 degrees. ■
