Allegheny Health Network’s Peters Township Health + Wellness Pavilion
Specialized cardiac care,
close to your home
Washington, Pa., resident Jimela Haines was having difficulty
walking and experiencing partial numbness in her leg. A nurse
for 39 years, Jimelea went to her primary care doctor, who
promptly referred her to Allegheny Health Network’s Peters
Township Health + Wellness Pavilion for cardiovascular testing.
Knowledge is power: DEXA
scans predict your potential for
fractures and osteoporosis
Jimela was pleasantly surprised to learn there was a specialized
care center, with interventional cardiologist J. Travis Wilson,
MD, right near her home.
“Dr. Wilson saw me the same day
that my primary care doctor called
the AHN pavilion,” said Jimalea.
“They were so quick with getting
me into the office and determining
what was wrong.”
Dr. Wilson determined that her
left iliac artery was completely
blocked. Soon after, he completed
a stenting procedure on Jimalea
at Allegheny General Hospital. Her
symptoms immediately resolved,
J. Travis Wilson, MD
and Dr. Wilson continued to follow
Jimalea in Peters until she moved to South Carolina last year.
The three interventional cardiologists at AHN’s Peters Township
Health + Wellness Pavilion specialize in cardiac catheterization,
peripheral vascular disease, carotid artery disease, and many
other cardiovascular conditions. Additional specialists in heart
failure, pulmonary vascular disease, electrophysiology, and
cardiac and vascular surgery are also available.
“Patients want to receive the best health care, but don’t want to
travel far,” said Dr. Wilson. “Our goal is to offer complete heart
care in an outpatient setting. We want to make care exceptional,
easy, and as stress-free as possible for our patients.”
As we age, the threat of bone fractures and osteoporosis become
more of a reality. A simple, painless radiology exam called a
DEXA (Dual-energy X-ray Absorptiometry) scan can detect these
conditions early and, in some cases, can help you and your doctor
construct a plan to prevent them from getting worse.
Using an extremely low dose of radiation, DEXA scans are so
sensitive, they can detect as little as 1 percent bone loss in the spine,
hips, and extremities.
Although osteoporosis most common in postmenopausal women,
anyone older than 40 may be at risk. If you are a smoker, have
poor nutritional habits, don’t exercise, or have a family history of
osteoporosis, a DEXA scan is very important to determine your
level of risk.
Allegheny Health Network now offers DEXA scans at Peters
