South Park Amphitheater will host 14 free performances this season
beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 3, with the Pittsburgh Opera.
Other South Park highlights include:
• June 24 – Lit, the California pop-punk band that hit it big in the
1990s with the song “My Own Worst Enemy;”
• July 2 – Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, playing patriotic
favorites in honor of Independence Day;
• July 8 – The Bad Plus, progressive jazz “scientists” who have
found a way to put a modern rock-oriented spin on jazz, while
still honoring its forward-thinking traditions;
• July 15 – Randy Bachman, co-founder of the iconic bands The
Guess Who and Bachman Turner Overdrive, whose hits include
“American Woman,” “These Eyes,” “No Sugar Tonight,” “Taking
Care of Business” and “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet;”
• July 22 – Summer of Love, a concert experience that celebrates
the songs of the Woodstock generation with all arrangements
played note-for-note by the highest caliber of musicians,
including a horn section, rhythm section, singers, string section,
back-up vocalists, keyboardists, guitarists and more;
• August 5 – Ruthie Foster, Grammy Award nominee and
expressive vocalist whose take on Americana includes plenty of
soul, blues, and gospel;
• August 12 – Jana Kramer, an actor, singer and songwriter who
parlayed a recurring role on the television series “One Tree Hill”
into a successful country music career. Her song “I Got the Boy”
was selected by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the top 10
country songs for 2015.
