Cadet of the Year Upper St. Clair High School alum Anthony DeRubeis honored by Local Civil Air Patrol Squadron. C adet First Lieutenant Anthony DeRubeis, a 2013 graduate of Upper St. Clair High Schoo1, was awarded Cadet of the Year by Civil Air Patrol’s Allegheny Composite Squadron 602 at the unit’s annual banquet at the Skyvue Firehall in West Mifflin. The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is an official auxiliary of the United States Air Force (USAF) that performs search and rescue and emergency services, as well as teaches aerospace and leadership through its cadet program in communities nationwide. Cadet 1Lt. DeRubeis has served in the cadet program of the Allegheny Squadron of Civil Air Patrol for almost four years. Since joining, he has been extremely active and has worked his way to Cadet First Lieutenant, one of the highest ranks a student can achieve. He has also held all flight level positions, the position of Squadron First Sergeant, and is currently the Cadet Recruiter and Deputy 56 724.942.0940 TO ADVERTISE | Upper St. Clair Cadet Commander for his unit. He is honored that he received Cadet of the Year from his squadron. “I am not about chasing awards but it’s nice to be recognized after so many years of hard work,” said Cadet 1 Lt. DeRubeis. “I am here for my cadets at this point in my career.” Cadet 1 Lt. DeRubeis has been active in his leadership training by attending Basic Encampment in 2010, Leadership Development Course in 2011, and staffing Encampment as a public affairs officer in 2012. While striving to become a better leader, Cadet DeRubeis says he pushes his cadets to do the same through hard work, discipline, establishing pride in their work, and never settling for less. He is active on the squadron’s search and rescue ground team and is training for ground team leader. He has gone on six ground team missions and was the cadet in charge of all communications at Wings Over Pittsburgh as a Cadet Technical Sergeant in 2011. Currently Cadet DeRubeis attends Point Park University for Intelligence and National Security, and Army ROTC at the University of Pittsburgh. Cadet DeRubeis hopes to join the U.S. Ar
