GIRL SCOUT TROOP 71004 CREATES BUTTERFLY GARDEN
Girl Scout Troop 71004 of Upper St. Clair proudly completed its Bronze Award Take Action Project by creating the USC Community Butterfly Garden, a lasting space that supports local pollinators while providing a peaceful place for the community to enjoy.
Troop members Sophia Chimino, Abigail Elders, Madeline Flower, Elyse Grossi, Ditya Makhija, Serafina Malepati and Laavanya Mishra spent more than a year planning, designing and completing the project.
The girls planted seven varieties of pollinator-friendly flowers, including butterfly bush, milkweed, bee balm, blazing star, purple coneflowers, marigolds and black-eyed Susans. They also created a whimsical fairy garden for families to enjoy.
The project was entirely led by the scouts, with each girl taking on a leadership role and working together to research, organize and communicate with Upper St. Clair Township. The troop partnered with the Parks and Forestry administrator, Gary Schafer, whose guidance helped bring their vision to life.
Through this experience, the girls developed leadership, teamwork and communication skills while learning how collaboration can strengthen a community.
Their butterfly garden provides habitat for butterflies, bees and other pollinators while creating a beautiful outdoor space that will continue to educate, inspire and benefit the Upper St. Clair community for years to come.
‘ JOY OF CHRISTMAS’ CRAFT SHOW
Get a head start on your holiday shopping at the Joy of Christmas Craft Show on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 9 a. m. to 3:30 p. m. at St. Louise de Marillac School and LeGras Parish Center in Upper St. Clair.
This annual event features more than 100 artists and crafters offering unique handmade gifts and seasonal decor, along with a bake sale, crafts raffle, 50 / 50 raffle, and lunch and snacks available for purchase.
Admission is $ 2 and includes a complimentary crafts raffle ticket. The show is a festive way to support local artisans and kick off the holiday season!
BETHEL PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH HOLIDAY- A-FAIR
A longtime South Hills holiday tradition returns when Bethel Presbyterian Church hosts its 52nd Holiday-A-Fair on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 9 a. m. to 3 p. m.
The event features a variety of craft and specialty vendors, a popular salad buffet complete with the church’ s signature chicken salad, homemade desserts, gift baskets and baked goods.
Sponsored by the church’ s Women’ s Association, proceeds benefit numerous local and international ministries
including SHIM, Brothers Brother Foundation, Meals on Wheels, and the Western Pennsylvania Diaper Bank.
UPPER ST. CLAIR – BETHEL PARK BREAKFAST ROTARY FARMERS MARKET
The Upper St. Clair – Bethel Park Breakfast Rotary Farmers Market is open every Tuesday through Sept. 24, from 3 to 7 p. m., in the Westminster Presbyterian Church parking lot located at 2040 Washington Road.
Visitors can shop for fresh produce, baked goods, specialty foods, flowers and handcrafted products while supporting local farmers, artisans and small businesses.
Beyond providing a weekly gathering place for the community, the market serves as an important fundraiser, helping the Rotary Club support local nonprofit organizations and community initiatives through its commitment to“ Service Above Self.”
