“B
ringing people together, meeting new friends, singing great
songs and having fun!” says Keith Apelgren, describing
what he most enjoys as a member of South Hills Keystone
Chorus.
South Hills Keystone Chorus is a nonprofit organization made up of
men from throughout the Pittsburgh area, including Peters Township,
Upper St. Clair, Bethel Park, Baldwin, Whitehall, Mt. Lebanon,
Chartiers Valley and more. The group specializes in barbershop-style
singing and performs barbershop favorites like “My Wild Irish Rose”
and “Heart of My Heart,” but also regularly performs other styles of
music including doo-wop, patriotic, religious selections and more.
The first meeting to establish the Pittsburgh South Hills Chapter of
the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop
Quartet Singing in America (SPEBQSA) was held in 1957 at St. Paul
Episcopal Church in Mt. Lebanon. There were 18 men in attendance.
