One of the services provided by PH
supports children and teens with
a serious illness and their parents.
The Children with a Life-Limiting
Illness Program (previously known
as the Pediatric Waiver Program) is
a Colorado State Medicaid program
designed for individuals under the
age of 18. Kelly Mincinski, Clinical
Services Executive, has been working
with other key staff members to
develop our extra services. “We’re
currently the only agency in Larimer
and Weld Counties offering this
Medicaid waiver program.” PH offers
counseling, music and art therapy,
and skilled respite support to the
nine children currently on service
with the goal of improving the quality
of life for both the children and their
parents.
Many of the children in this program
have complicated medical needs
which can limit the opportunities for
parents to take a break from the role
of care giver. In order to provide
respite, a PH nurse can spend several
hours with the child or teen and
provide skilled care if needed. This
gives the parents an opportunity
to run errands, engage in self-care
activities or just rest.
