Junior Hoop Dancer
Rito Lopez
1st Grader at Pima Elementary
How long have you been a Junior Hoop Dancer?
I’ve been hoop dancing since I was three years old.
This is my second year competing in the junior category
at the competition.
Do you ever get nervous before performing in front
of a crowd?
I don’t really get nervous because I dance a lot.
How did you learn this type of dancing?
I learned to hoop dance from my uncle. I have new designs I
always am excited to show him. I can’t wait to dance with him.
Have you won any awards/trophies?
I am the world champion youth hoop dancer for The Heard
Museum. I also won first place for the Wa:k Pow Wow Hoop
Dance contest in San Xavier. I also won first place at the Salt
River High School talent show. I have two trophies.
Amber Guymon provided us with
knowledgeable, professional and
personal legal advice and guidance
through a very difficult time. It was
very nice to have all of our options
provided in an easy to follow yet detailed
presentation. It was, and continues to be,
comforting to know that my family and I
have someone available to help with any
legal matters should the need arise again.

Duncan, and his Championship
trophy at The Heard Museum.
How many shows have you performed?
I don’t know how many shows I’ve danced in because I dance
maybe three times a week. Usually, I dance with my grandma,
uncles and mom at TSR (Talking Stick Resort), schools or events where I live.
Which one has been your favorite so far?
My favorite place I danced at was in New Mexico for the cultural center. The older people were real
nice to me and gave me hugs. One lady gave me a scarf because she liked my dancing. Z
