In all, more than 5,200 turkeys were
distributed across San Francisco
at over 70 giveaway events on the
Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
Our department raised funds
for more than 2,000 turkeys and
our staff delivered and handed
them out to local organizations
that support families in our
community.
Other City departments pitched

The turkeys were provided by
the City with the support of the
A. Phillip Randolph Institute,
Whole Foods and Foster Farms.
Breed was joined at three of the
distribution sites by Oakland
Mayor Libby Schaaf and San
Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo as
part of a friendly wager for
September’s Battle for the Bay
Coastal Cleanup – a volunteer
event that brought out more
than 6,000 volunteers to clean
and beautify our coastline
neighborhoods. Following the
cleanup event, the mayors agreed
to continue collaborating on
volunteer events that benefit all
three cities.
