Cristina Calderón Olea, manager of the
Streetscape Program for Public Works, won
a Rising Star Award for her work as a civil
engineer. The national honor is awarded by
Civil + Structural Engineer magazine and
recognizes exceptional technical capability and
leadership ability in the fields of structural and
civil engineering. Cristina uses her deep well of
professional expertise and strong people skills to
deliver infrastructure projects for the City and
County of San Francisco. In her role at Public
Works she has managed the Cesar Chavez,
Potrero, Polk and Second Street streetscape
projects. The result of her work makes the public
right of way safer and easier to navigate for all
users in one of North America’s most densely-
packed and congested cities.
The Public Works budget team won the
Distinguished Budget Presentation Award by
the national Government Finance Officers
Association. The organization found that our
budget presentation effectively serves as a policy
document, a financial plan, an operations guide
and a communications platform. “The award,”
according to the Government Finance Officers
Association, “represents a significant achievement
(and) reflects the commitment of the governing
body and staff to meeting the highest principles of
governmental budgeting.”
