... AS A soldier
The outbreak of the First World War reached Štefánik in Morocco, where he served as a French citizen in the service of the French government. He joined the active military activities for the first time at the beginning of the First World War.
The brigadier called the French army, where he joined as an ordinary soldier. In the war he saw mainly the possibility of Slovaks independence. In his military activities he has achieved a magnificent career. In four years he became a lieutenant general.
The last military mission he graduated from August 1918 and headed to Russia. The Czechoslovak Foreign Army had 140,000 soldiers of which 50,000 in Russia. Brest, the Lithuanian peace between Germany and Russia shook the Czechoslovak army.
He joined the Military School in Chartres. On April 11, he received a pilot degree and a tithe rank. In the rank of lieutenant, he joined the Western Front. He carried out a number of exploratory flights in which he tracked the movements of the enemy troops.
Even as a soldier, he was still aware of the independence of the Czechs and Slovaks and tried to create an independent Czechoslovak Volunteer Unit.
