South Fayette Township
School District
Welcomes Regional
and National Educators
B
eing a proud member of the League of Innovative Schools
and a leader in the successful integration of Computational
Thinking within a K-12 Vertical Alignment, South Fayette
Township School District continually receives requests to host
annual briefings for districts throughout the country. On
September 25, 2019, the District welcomed 84 educators from
Kentucky, California, Indiana, and Ohio as well as local groups from
Charleroi and Pittsburgh Public School Districts.
During the visit, the attendees traveled throughout K-12
classrooms and studios to observe real time classroom activities,
heard from teachers, building administrators and most important,
interacted with students as they worked on their projects. As we
all continue to rely on a digital world and on-line connectivity
daily, educators are challenged to integrate technology into
their curriculum while preparing students to understand how to
effectively use these tools within their lessons.
Our visitors consider South Fayette a model for successful
integration of Computational Thinking in a K-12 Vertical Alignment
and utilize these professional development visits to begin to
incorporate these models within their districts. South Fayette
Township School District students and staff are proud to be able
to provide this outreach as it is making a difference for their peers
throughout the region and country.
Where computer science is not yet offered, integrating
computational thinking
into existing disciplines can
empower educators and
students to better understand
and participate in a
computational world. Schools
already teaching coding and
computer science will benefit
from weaving computational
thinking across disciplines in
order to enrich and amplify
lessons that are beyond the
reaches of computer science
classes.
