2017 Pennsylvania Employee of the Year

The School Nutrition Association of Pennsylvania has awarded Judy Kirkpatrick from the South Fayette Township School District the Pennsylvania Employee of the Year . This award is designed to recognize the valuable program
Judy Kirkpatrick contribution of school nutrition employees who work diligently to help make their food service program outstanding . This award is meant to recognize an employee as being the “ heart of the program .”
“ Judy is being recognized for exhibiting an extraordinary commitment to our nutrition program . She is driven , energetic and is South Fayette ’ s “ heart of our program .” Judy oversees the special dietary needs of our students , allergy needs , food safety and all food production at the intermediate , middle and elementary schools . We are excited to bring this award home to South Fayette . In the past , this award was issued to Aimee Dernosek ( two-time winner ) for her role as she represented the South Fayette High School ’ s food court , special events , food safety , and concessions . We have an amazing group of talented and loving employees at South Fayette , committed to nourishing our students and putting the needs of the students first . “ I couldn ’ t be prouder !” says Tricia Wood , Food Service Director for South Fayette .
Judy and her husband Dale reside in the district and she has been employed at South Fayette for over 19 years .
The award will be recognized at the School Nutrition Association of Pennsylvania ( SNAPa ) Annual Conference in August . SNAPa is the PA State Association of the national School Nutrition Association ( SNA ). We stand behind and implement SNA ’ s mission of “ advancing the quality of school meal programs through education and advocacy .” When you join SNAPa , you become part of a community of industry professionals . SNA is a national nonprofit professional organization representing more than 57,000 members who provide high-quality , low cost meals to students across the country . Recognized as the authority on school nutrition , SNA has been advancing the availability , quality , and acceptance of school nutrition programs as an integral part of education since 1946 .
Everyone here at the South Fayette Township School District congratulates Judy and looks forward to celebrating this achievement with her in August .

South Fayette High School TSA Team Competes at State Competition

In 1997 , Brian Garlick , high school Tech Ed teacher , travelled with his very first South Fayette Township School District Technology Student Association ( TSA ) team to the state competition . Fast forward to 2017 , and once again he made that same trip to this year ’ s competition at Seven Springs on April 19 - 21 .
Twelve South Fayette team members scored high enough on their regional contests to take part in the state competitions . They joined a field of more than 1,100 high school students from 91 chapters during the two days of intense challenges .
South Fayette ’ s team consisted of Matt Antantis , Suraj Bokil , Joe Cavanaugh , Sam Cohen , Josh Francis , Pat Gannon , Neha Joshi , Prateek Julakar , Katie Kenewell , Mitansh Madan , Josh Milteer , and Nick Wilke who all competed in numerous competitions .
Once again the TSA team showed Lion Pride as five team members placed within the top 10 in 4 competitions and after final rounds were concluded the following scores were announced : 10th Place , Extemporaneous Speech , Joe Cavanaugh ; 8th Place , Computer Systems Troubleshooting , Sam Cohen and Matt Antantis ; 8th Place , Prepared Presentation , Suraj Bokil ; and 4th Place , Photographic Technology , Josh Milteer .
South Fayette High School Students Win First Place at Three Rivers German Day
A group of 16 German students from South Fayette High School participated in the 17th Annual Three Rivers German Day Competition at Washington & Jefferson College on Thursday , March 16 , 2017 . Students from 12 area high schools took part in this year ’ s celebration of German language and culture by competing in various categories such as Music , Drama , Poetry Recitation , and Art . Judges from the Bayer Corporation , Washington & Jefferson College , and American Association of Teachers of German ( AATG ) evaluated the performances and artwork and awarded prizes .
South Fayette was awarded First Place in the category of Drama Acts . The students performed a play based on the German fairy tale “ Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten ”, which the German IV students had adapted for their stage performance . Other students helped create props and participated in the performance . The participating students
were Maria Albert , Margot Beck , Sai Bhatte , Matt Cillo , Megan Fabyonic , Anthony Gedrys , Sam Grant , Emilia Hyland , Kevin Kamyk , Lexi Koziak , Michael Kugler , Mark Pope , Hailee Taylor , Emily Vezzi , Abby Wesolek , and Jeremy Zura . Congratulations !
