South Fayette Continues
to Light It Up Blue
to Build Autism Awareness
On April 1, 2016, the staff and students of the South Fayette
Township School District participated in a district-wide “blue out”
in support of World Autism Day, which was nationally recognized
on April 2. Dr. Mandi Davis Skerbetz, Director of Pupil Services
Department organized Kids on the Block (KOB) assemblies for the
students in the Elementary and Intermediate schools. KOB is an
educational puppet show presented by the Children’s Institute
that features skits that cast a light on disabilities, autism being
one of them. Members of the High School Library Club, under the
direction of Nicole Simon, collaborated to create a shirt template
for students and staff to wear in support of building autism
awareness. All proceeds from the
t-shirt sales, as well as Wednesday
jeans days from the month of April,
will be donated to the Pittsburgh
Chapter of Autism Speaks. Over
$3,400 has been raised to date.
Thank you to the students and staff
who participated in the events
to build autism awareness in the
month of April at South Fayette
Township School District.
