Superintendent of Schools
We are very pleased to report that the Spring 2016 edition of
the Pittsburgh Business Times Guide to Western PA Schools has
named the South Fayette Township School District for the second
consecutive year as number one in this year’s Honor Roll rank of the
region’s top scoring districts. The District is also listed as fourth in
the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The guide rates the academic
performance of districts and schools in a seven-county region, and
includes information on the public and private schools operating
within those regions.
Copies of the guide are available through each District building
principal. Information regarding the guide is also available by
visiting the Pittsburgh Business Times website at
www.bizjournals.com/Pittsburgh. While students and a
comprehensive education are more than test scores, we are proud
of the commitment and collaboration from our Board of Directors,
administrators, staff, students, and families that have enabled the
District to achieve such a high level of academic excellence and
success as ranked in the Pittsburgh Business Times.
In addition to the District’s number one ranking, the South
Fayette Middle School celebrated its first recognition as a
Pennsylvania Don Eichorn: Schools to Watch Award Recipient.
South Fayette was one of only five other schools in the
Commonwealth to receive this distinction in 2016. The Schools to
Watch program selects each school for its academic excellence, its
responsiveness to the needs and interests of young adolescents,
and its commitment to helping all children achieve at high levels.
The schools must go through the process of taking an introspective
look at curriculum, instruction, assessments, and programming
60 South Fayette
and commit to fostering continuous enhancements and excellence
throughout the three-year award designation period.
Excellence will continue to be pursued District wide in
academics, the arts, and athletics. Our greatest challenge is to
continue to offer high-quality services in the growing South Fayette
community. Our District enrollment now exceeds 3,000 students.
To accommodate our District’s growth and facilities needs, work
with Eckles Architecture & Engineering and PJ Dick continues as
the South Fayette High School Additions and Alterations Project is
fully engaged. Information is routinely reviewed and updates are
provided at the Board of Directors Work Session meetings. Progress
photos are also available on the District’s website.
Innovation and learning remain key to our future. The District
Operational Planning Theme for the 2015-2016 school year,
Connectivity and Transformation, was largely successful as part
of the Pittsburgh region’s greater Remake Learning initiative.
Please visit the Remake Learning website for exciting information
and upcoming learning opportunities for children, families, and
educators. South Fayette was fully engaged in the recent Remake
High School Alterations and Additions Construction Project May 2016.
