Darlene Kruth—
The Face of
Compassion
at Northwood
A
s the wife of South Fayette Middle
School’s STEAM coordinator, a
volunteer with the South Fayette
Foundation for Excellence (SFFE) and a Real
Estate Sales Executive who has introduced
countless families to South Fayette, Darlene
Kruth is now going a step further by
distributing scholarships to South Fayette
graduates through the SFFE with money raised
from portions of her commission allocated for
the awards.
“The first donation was made in July 2015
and this April, the first distribution from those
funds was designated to a qualified candidate,”
she said. “I know what scholarships mean to
students, and it has always been one of my
passions. This was my way of saying that I want
to give back to the community. There are only
so many hours in the day, so I thought what
better way for me to give back than through my
life’s work.”
She and the selection committee received 13
applicants this year for the inaugural Lawrence
H. Kruth Memorial Scholarship, which
supports graduating seniors who want to go
on to postsecondary education in science,
technology, or engineering fields. Of those,
five candidates were interviewed and a $1,500
scholarship was awarded to Sarah Deutsch,
a bright young lady who will be attending
the University of Alabama in the fall to study
engineering.
Darlene submits her donations to the
SFFE annually, based on net commissions for
transactions closed in the previous year. Those
helps students. She’s an accredited staging
professional, and includes staging services
for all of her listings at no additional charge
to her clients. She’s also a Seniors Real
Estate Specialist, who is adept at guiding
senior citizens looking to downsize to more
manageable homes or transition into assisted
living facilities.
“These are people who haven’t bought or
sold a home in as long as 40 years and don’t
know where to start,” Kruth said. “An SRES
has a whole different toolbox of resources to
help seniors begin that process and complete
it successfully.”
