This was my way of saying that I want to give back to the community. There are only so many hours in the day, so I thought what better way for me to give back than through my life’s work.” She and the selection committee received 13 applicants this year for the inaugural Lawrence H. Kruth Memorial Scholarship, which supports graduating seniors who want to go on to postsecondary education in science, technology, or engineering fields. Of those, five candidates were interviewed and a $1,500 scholarship was awarded to Sarah Deutsch, a bright young lady who will be attending the University of Alabama in the fall to study engineering. Darlene submits her donations to the SFFE annually, based on net commissions for transactions closed in the previous year. Those helps students.
