New Location, Same Amazing Tastes of Asia
n the more than 20 years that New Dragon Express has been in South
Fayette, it’s had to move locations three times because of construction
beyond their control along Washington Pike.
Owner Stephanie Weng jokes about it, saying, “We’ve moved three
times to the same location.”
But those moves also gave the restaurant opportunities to better itself,
to change the style, expand the menu and broaden the offerings at the
bar, allowing New Dragon Express to come back stronger each time. The
most recent move was no different.
“It’s a new building with a new style, but we also added to the old
menu,” Weng explains. “There are a lot more sushi options and we now
have a hibachi for dine-in customers. We reopened back up October 1
and the customers love it. They say it’s beautiful here and they love the
new looks and menu.”
As a family business, Weng also attributes New Dragon Express’
longevity to its unique take on the sauces that accompany traditional
Asian offerings.
“Our sauces really stand out,” she says.
“My husband is the main chef here and
is here early every morning preparing
so that everything is right. Those are his
sauces that people love. His cooking is
excellent for everything on the menu, but
the sauces are what people tell us makes
us different, makes them come back.
These are all family recipes. We’re in South
Fayette and have many South Fayette
customers, but we get people from Peters
Township, Canonsburg, Mt. Lebanon,
Bethel Park, Cecil, McDonald, Scott… you
name it. They all come here because we’re different.”
Some highlights include a full sushi menu where
you can order as few as two pieces of your favorite for a
quick appetizer, up to an 86-piece boat that serves four
people; a General Tso’s that’s out of this world; and even
Thai offerings like Masaman, Shumai and Pad Thai.
