PTA Science and
Innovation Fair
Young scientists and inventors from South Fayette Elementary School and
South Fayette Intermediate School displayed their science experiments and
inventions at the annual PTA Science and Invention Fair on November 13, 2019, in
the elementary school’s All-Purpose room. Over 170 students from kindergarten
through fifth grade participated in the non-judged fair. The fair provided the
students an opportunity to practice the full process of science investigation and
invention and learn about the scientific and engineering process. Students were
encouraged to take on the role of “scientist” or “inventor” and explore a question
or come up with a solution to a problem that concerned them.
Students in various science classes in the South Fayette Middle and High
Schools created hands-on projects and demonstrations for the young
participants and their families to explore during the event. In addition, the
Carnegie Science Center’s “Science on the
Road” mobile lab was on hand to serve a
tasty treat, and STEM leaders from Covestro
provided a unique demonstration. The
evening was a great experience for the
children, and everyone had a great time
learning about science.
