WHAT’S NEWS IN SOUTH FAYETTE FREE GLASS RECYCLING COLLECTION APRIL 6 IN SOUTH FAYETTE A free glass recycling collection will be held Saturday, April 6, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the South Fayette Township municipal complex, 515 Millers Run Road, as part of a series of Saturday collections throughout the South Hills this spring hosted by the Pennsylvania Resources Council. South Fayette residents are welcome to attend all of the events to drop off any color of glass bottles and jars. Window glass, drinking glasses or stemware, and ceramics are strictly prohibited. Glass is no longer permitted in curbside recycling bins. The following events are scheduled for Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.: April 6 – South Fayette Municipal Complex Sponsored by South Fayette Township April 13 – Dormont Pool Sponsored by Borough of Dormont May 11 – Village Square Mall Sponsored by Township of Upper St. Clair SOUTH FAYETTE RECEIVES GRANT TO PURCHASE FACE-TO- FACE PLAYGROUND SWINGS and a child (or two children) to swing and interact face-to-face and eye-to-eye to provide opportunities for multi- generational play and emotional bonding. The Expression Swing has a bucket seat for children under 5 years old and a facing adult swing. The Expression Swing Universal includes an adult swing facing an adaptive seat that provides additional support for children ages 5 to 12 of all abilities. The swings will be installed in Morgan Park this spring. South Fayette Township was the only municipality to receive the grant, thanks to Parks & Recreation Director Paula Simmons, who applied after attending the Play for Change conference hosted by the Playful Pittsburgh Collaborative. Funds come from The Grable Foundation and The Benedum Foundation. SOUTH HILLS SENIOR SOFTBALL LOOKING FOR MEMBERS South Hills Senior Softball League registration is open for the 2019 season. The league is for players 55 years old and up. (Players who are 54 can join at any time during the year they turn 55.) Information and forms for registration are on the league’s website South Fayette Township Parks & Recreation has received a $3,500 Play for Change grant for the purchase of two GameTime Expression Swings. The league holds practices and games from April through August/early September at fields in South Park and elsewhere in the South Hills. “You'll feel like a kid again when you play,” says Doug Houston, commissioner of the nonprofit group. “The average player is about 66, and our softball rules are age-appropriate.” Players are chosen for teams each spring in a draft, ensuring that talent is spread more or less evenly among the teams. The league holds a catered picnic at the end of each season. Players come from all over the area, including Baldwin, Bethel Park, Bridgeville, Carnegie, Castle Shannon, Chartiers Valley, Dormont, Mt. Lebanon, Peters Township, South Park, Upper St. Clair, Whitehall and other communities. icmags.com WOMEN’S GOLF OF MT.
