Alan Silko
Silko & Associates,
T
a name with South Fayette roots
here comes a time in the growth of every small business
where the advice and counsel of an attorney is a must.
And, for more than 30 years, Alan Silko, the founding
partner of Silko & Associates, P.C., has been providing
that expertise to his satisfied clients by working closely with
them to solve and avoid problems. “We represent businesses and
individuals in all areas of employment, contractual issues, insurance
issues, accidents and commercial litigation. Many of our small
business clients work in areas related to the energy industry as
well as manufacturing, construction and service industries,” said
Mr. Silko.
After many years in downtown Pittsburgh, several years ago the
firm relocated to South Fayette. “We were warned that the absence
of a ‘Downtown presence’ would not be good for business, but
we have found just the opposite to be true,” notes Mr. Silko. “The
Abele Business Park location right off the I-79 exit is much more
convenient for our existing clients and we have seen our client base
grow significantly, as this location puts us in the heart and center of
the areas served by many of the service businesses we represent.”
While he has over 30 years of experience in litigation, Mr. Silko
says he is more interested in helping his clients avoid costly
litigation: “Our goal for our corporate clients is to create policies and
implement procedures to avoid potential problems. Our longtime
clients have seen their legal fees and exposures decrease by taking
proactive measures and obtaining legal advice prior to a problem
developing. While victories in court are always satisfying, it is much
more satisfying to help clients avoid problems and avoid the need
for litigation.”
Not only is South Fayette the home of the Silko family’s business,
it’s also where they live and give back to the community. Mr. Silko
started and ran the South Fayette Boys Travel Basketball program
for 17 years, before retiring from it last year.
“I’d show up to coach in sweats and people had no idea I was
an attorney. To this day, there are people who would be surprised
to know that I do this for a living,” he said. “And our clients are also
pleasantly surprised that we’re located right here in South Fayette
and not in some downtown office building without parking. South
Fayette is a perfect location for business and families, which is why
we moved here.”
He and his wife, Beth, raised four children—Jessica, Joey, Adam
and Tommy—in the South Fayette School District. Jessica and Joey
are both lawyers at the firm. Adam plans to join it as well after
graduating from law school this spring. Tommy is an undergraduate
student at Penn State who is also interested in law as a career.
Although having much to be proud of professionally, Silko is
most proud of his family, whom he is privileged to work alongside
every day.
