Our Staff are our Super Heroes .
We want to thank our South Fayette Township School District Nutritional Services Department , kitchen leaders and staff for all of their hard work during the past two years , as we served our students and families , both at school and throughout the community . From the start of the 2021-2022 school year , we have served , to date , over 433,000 “ no charge ” meals and approximately 85,000 complimentary breakfasts . Our food service staff has served over 1.5 million servings of fresh fruits and vegetables and over 534,000 bottles of milk .
In August 2021 , we were re-approved for the SSO – ( Emergency Feeding Program ) as part of the COVID-19 Emergency Feeding Breakfast and Lunch Program . The program allowed the meals to served safely , by eliminating the need to collect payments , including cash payments , at meal sites . It also allowed for the speedy service of meals , reducing contact and potential exposure to COVID-19 . The District was granted approval to serve “ no charge ” meals beginning in March 2020 through June 2022 .

The District partnered with the United States Department of Agriculture ( USDA ) Department of Defense ( DOD ) Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program which allows schools to use USDA Foods entitlement dollars to buy fresh produce . The program is operated by the Defense Logistics Agency ( DLA ) at the Department of Defense . We have been granted approximately $ 75,000 to purchase items needed . We have partnered with the DOD Fruit & Vegetable Program for approximately 8 years . We also want to thank US Foods Supplier and Distributor for working so diligently to get our weekly orders delivered on time .
Our food service operation ran smoothly because of the entire South Fayette staff including student monitors , administrative assistants , administrators , bus aides , bus drivers , custodians , and maintenance , just to name a few . We appreciate each team member and thank you again for your dedication .
As we look to the 2022 – 2023 School Year , we are waiting to hear from the USDA regarding pricing and other guidelines . We are being instructed by Pennsylvania Department of Education Food and Nutrition Division , to plan as though our food service program is ( pre-COVID-19 ) with meal prices being charged and free meals for all students concluded . Families will need to submit a meal application to quality for free and reduced meals through the application process .
As we wait for more details , I would strongly encourage parents , that feel they would normally qualify ( in a non-COVID-19 school year ) for Free and Reduced meals , to submit an application for the upcoming school year 2022-2023 , in the event that there is additional P-EBT Cards or other extra funds that may be distributed throughout this upcoming school year . A new Free & Reduced Application was added to the District ’ s website near the end of July . Additional information will be posted on the District ’ s website at : southfayette . org under the Food Service tab .
