or vegetable to qualify as a reimbursable “meal.” Grains served are required to be whole grains. Lunches and snacks need to meet the “Nutrition Standards for Competitive Foods in Schools” mandate meeting guidelines for calories, fat, and sodium. This mandate also affected the beverage size, calorie and nutritional content, portion sizes, and all a la carte food/beverage items. Our snacks in the intermediate school and middle school meet the “Heath Hunger Free Kids Act 2010 guidelines.” Snacks in these schools are ONLY offered after the student has gone through the line and has had the chance to finish their lunch. Snacks are offered the last 10 minutes prior to dismissal. Snacks are served only one day a week at the intermediate school.
