TOWNSHIP of SHALER News

The rain could not dampen the spirits of those in attendance to celebrate the grand reopening of Fall Run Park on May 6th. This event was held to celebrate the $ 868,000 improvements to the park over the past six months. Fall Run Park is a 93.65-acre park that is located at 187 Fall Run Road off Route 8 in Shaler Township. The newly renovated park features walking bridges, steps and a viewing platform for the central focus of the park, a 20-foot-high waterfall.
The reopening event featured an official ribbon cutting ceremony with the Township’ s elected officials and Senator Randy Vulakovich and Representatives Hal English and Dom Costa. These individuals were vital to the park renovations as they secured $ 560,000 in state funding to help offset the construction costs.
In addition to the ribbon cutting event there were many activities for everyone in attendance, including a cookout, bounce houses, crafts and a number of exhibitor’ tents. Attendees were encouraged to participate in a scavenger hunt that encompassed the walking trail with a

number of surprises along the trail. The Township wishes to thank our exhibitors for the number of interactive activities for those in attendance. This event would not have been as successful if it were not for the participation of the Shaler North Hills Library, The Audubon Society, PA Fish and Boat Commission, PA Game Commission and the Northern Are Environmental Council. The Township would also like to thank Gateway Engineers for co-sponsoring this event with the Township.
For those residents that missed this event, we encourage you to take some time and enjoy this Shaler Township treasure. We are sure you will not be disappointed with the improvements. It is a great way to spend an afternoon enjoying the peaceful walking trail or allowing the kids to explore the stream bed and waterfalls. This park is a true gem of Shaler Township and we encourage all residents to visit this park over the summer months.
