Shaler Area School District is currently accepting Kindergarten registrations for the 2016-2017 school year. Registrations require the following items: two proofs of residency( e. g. utility bill or driver’ s license [ cell phone statements are not acceptable ]), the child’ s original birth certificate and a current copy of the immunization record. Shaler Area School District STEAM Summer Camp

STEAM Summer Camp welcomes students who just completed grades 3 to 7 to take part in engaging, interactive and educational sessions from 9 a. m. to noon each day. Students can choose from sessions that focus on STEAM subjects and include topics such as robotics with Lego Mindstorms-based robots or science exploration in Shaler Area Elementary’ s IKS Titan spaceship simulator. Shaler Area School District Summer Feeding Program

For the second year, Shaler Area School District is participating in the free Summer Food Service Program sponsored by the National School Lunch Program. Free meals will be provided to all children, age 18 and younger, without registration or charge at various locations throughout the Shaler Area community. Acceptance and participation requirements for the program and activities are the same for all regardless of race, color, national origin, gender, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. The meal distribution sites and times will be posted on the Shaler Area website, sasd. k12. pa. us, or interested participants can call 1.866.3. HUNGRY to find the nearest location.
Shaler Great Gardens Tour and Great Local Gardens Contest

Beautiful blooms to benefit the library! Local gardens with great variety, color and detail are featured on this self-guided tour. Sponsored by the Shaler Garden Club and the Shaler North Hills Library with the proceeds benefiting the library. Visit the website for more information. Have a great garden? Sign up for the Great Local Gardens Contest: entries will be due in mid-July; entry forms available at the library. This annual event is sponsored by the library and the Shaler Garden Club. In judging the winners, key criteria are variety, use of space, use of materials, and color. Prizes will be awarded for the top five gardens chosen.

Audubon Explorers is for children entering Kindergarten through 2nd grade this fall. Jump like a toad, zing like a dragonfly, and sway like a tree! Explore forest, field and pond for birds and bugs, frogs and foxes. Make nature crafts, play games and get dirty along the way. Audubon Trailblazers is for children entering 3rd through 6th grade this fall. Observe, identify, explore— and make a difference in the world. Contribute to real-world citizen science by studying butterflies, birds, plants and more. Each week, special projects will make the reserves better for plants, animals and people.
