SHALER AREA STUDENT MUSICIANS PLAY 9TH ANNUAL SHALERPALOOZA
The stage at Mr. Smalls Theatre in Millvale has hosted countless national music performers, but on Saturday, Feb. 18, Shaler Area student musicians took the stage.
Shalerpalooza, a concert to benefit class funds, has become an anticipated event in the Shaler Area community and over the past nine years has grown to include more student musicians and soloists. This year, the concert featured 15 different bands, solo artists and performers.
The event started in 2009 with a concert by Dale Mangold’ s Pittsburgh‐based rock band, Tobacco Road. Mangold, a Shaler Area High School custodial / maintenance staff member, has expanded the event over the years to feature more of the student body’ s musical talents.
More than 300 students and adults attended this year’ s event and proceeds were split between the four high school classes’ funds, which help offset the cost of senioryear activities such as prom, banquets and graduation caps and gowns.
