11th annual shaler
great gardens tour
Personal expression, creativity and
the challenges of Pittsburgh topography
came together with beautiful results in
this year’s Shaler Great Gardens Tour. The
11th annual tour took place on Sunday,
June 24, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It was
sponsored by the Shaler Garden Club for
the benefit of the library. Five spectacular
gardens were selected to inspire and
delight.
In addition to raising funds for the
library, the Shaler Garden Club hopes
to inspire people with the knowledge
and love of gardening, to protect the
environment, and to encourage civic
planting. The club sponsors many projects
though the year, including an annual plant
sale at Kiwanis Park, a children’s fairy
house workshop held at SNHL, the Shaler
Great Gardens Contest, Arbor Day/Earth
Day for kindergarteners in the Shaler
school district, fall wreath making for
residents of Hampton Fields, maintaining
the gardens at SNHL and more.
The Shaler Garden Club has raised
nearly $20,000 in the 11 years of the
garden tour’s history.
