House Spirit at Scott Primary!
At the beginning of the school year the Scott community gathered for their annual House Sorting Celebration, and the excitement was off the charts! Our newest students— kindergartners and those new to Scott— took their turn reaching into the magical Sorting Book, where they were officially sorted into one of our six spirited Houses! Cheers erupted as returning students warmly welcomed their new teammates with highfives, hugs, and house pride!
Mapping New Understanding
Students in Mrs. Welka’ s seventhgrade Ancient Empire class are learning about longitude and latitude and how these conceptual lines form an imaginary grid on the surface of the earth. These lines are used to find absolute location. Students used Google Earth’ s latitude and longitude feature to locate specific places around the world by typing in coordinates and dropping placemarks. They practiced finding famous cities, landmarks, and even Shaler Area Middle School using the grid system. This helped them understand how every spot on Earth has a unique“ address.” Interactive maps, such as Google Earth, make learning more exciting and hands-on.

Today is the Day the Teddy Bears Have Their Picnic
The first-graders at Reserve Primary celebrated their annual Teddy Bear Picnic. The students made teddy bear headbands, completed a writing and graphing activity, and had a picnic in the side courtyard with their furry friends. It was a beautiful, fun-filled day!
Honoring Skip Palmer
This spring, the Shaler Area School Board of Directors unanimously voted to rename the softball field from Hilltop Field to Skip Palmer Field at Hilltop. This change honors the late softball coach Skip Palmer for his immeasurable contributions to Shaler Area. During his tenure from 2006 to 2017, Skip Palmer led the softball team to nine Section Championships, three WPIAL Championship appearances, and two PIAA State Finals appearances, reflecting the high caliber of his coaching. Yet, it’ s Coach Palmer’ s investment in students off the field that made him so deeply beloved. He constantly mentored and encouraged students, leaving an enduring impact on our community. haler area school district SHALER AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT NEWS
