Advocating for Our Students
This summer , Lezlie DelVecchio-Marks , School Counselor at Burchfield Primary , spoke on the steps of the capitol rotunda in Harrisburg on behalf of school counselors and highlighted the nationally recognized comprehensive school counseling program at Burchfield Primary . State Senator Lindsey Williams , who serves on the Burchfield School Counseling Advisory Council , also celebrated Shaler Area during her remarks .

Runners of Steel
Shaler Area Elementary School has a robust culture that empowers students to find the lessons of character and health in running . From the annual Titan Trail 5K to the Pittsburgh 3 Rivers Marathon ’ s Kids of Steel program , students find camaraderie , fun , and strength in running . Last year , 103 students participated in Kids of Steel and a number have gone on to participate in the cross country team at Shaler Area Middle School . haler area school district

History Has Its Eyes on You
Students from the Shaler Area Middle School Gifted and Talented Education ( GATE ) enjoyed seeing a performance of Hamilton at the Benedum Center . The performance led to discussions of history , culture , and artistry .
