Dear Shaler Area Community, haler area school district SHALER AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT NEWS

As we look ahead to the summer months, I want to take a moment to thank our students, staff, families, and community members for another outstanding year in the Shaler Area School District. Together, we have continued to build on our tradition of excellence while creating meaningful opportunities for our students to learn, grow, and thrive.
This spring has been filled with accomplishments that make us all proud to be part of the Shaler Area community. Our students have excelled in the classroom, on the stage, in athletic competition, and through service to others. From academic honors and fine arts performances to championship-level athletics and student leadership initiatives, our Titans continue to demonstrate what it means to Engage, Empower, and Excel.
As we prepare for the 2026 – 2027 school year, our district remains focused on the future. Through our Building for Tomorrow initiative, we continue planning for a strong and sustainable educational experience for generations to come. We are grateful for the thoughtful input of families, staff, and residents who have participated in this important work.
Summer is also a time of preparation across the district. Our custodial, maintenance, and administrative teams will be hard at work completing projects, improving facilities, and preparing our schools to welcome students back in August. Their efforts behind the scenes are vital to ensuring a safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environment.
I encourage all of our students to use the summer months to rest, recharge, read often, stay active, and spend quality time with family and friends. Learning does not stop when school ends, and summer offers wonderful opportunities to explore new interests and experiences.
Thank you for your continued support of the Shaler Area School District. It is truly an honor to serve as your Superintendent of Schools. I wish each of you a safe, enjoyable, and relaxing summer.
With Titan Pride,
Bryan E. O’ Black, Ed. D. Superintendent of Schools

Dear Shaler Area School District Community,
As we near the end of another school year, I am proud to share three exciting developments that reflect the strength of our district and our commitment to our students and community.
First, Shaler Area School District has received multiple prestigious accolades recognizing our commitment to educational excellence. Shaler Area Middle School has been named a Pennsylvania Don Eichhorn Schools: Schools to Watch honoree— one of just four newly recognized schools in the Commonwealth— an honor that celebrates our middle school’ s academic excellence, developmental responsiveness, and dedication to every student’ s growth. Additionally, the district has received a Best Communities for Music Education( BCME) Award from The NAMM Foundation for the 9th consecutive year, a remarkable achievement that reflects our sustained commitment to music education. These honors are a testament to the remarkable work of our administrators, teachers, and staff each and every day.
Second, this spring we proudly celebrated 15 student-athletes at our 2026 Signing Day as they committed to continuing their athletic careers at the collegiate level. We are incredibly proud of these young people and the bright futures ahead of them.
Finally, the Board recently approved a bond issue that will fund critical building improvements at Shaler Area Middle School and Reserve Primary School while restructuring existing debt. This fiscally responsible approach provides meaningful budget relief over the next two years, allowing us to hold the line on taxes for our residents while providing an outstanding education for our students. These accomplishments belong to our entire community. Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
20 SHALER AREA
James Tunstall President, Shaler Area School Board
