RECREATIONAL FIRES- OPEN BURNING REGULATION
Open burning may only be conducted in accordance with Allegheny County Health Department Article XXI § 2105.50“ Open Burning.” And Chapter 95“ Outdoor Burning” of the Township Code. Note the following:
1) Burning may be considered a nuisance due to the severity of the amount of air pollutants, the duration or frequency of the burning, the topography of the surrounding, or the meteorological conditions.
2) Open burning using chimineas, firepits, or outdoor fireplaces may only be conducted using materials listed.
3) Definition-“ Open burning” means any fire or combustion from which air contaminants pass directly into the open air without passing through a flue. The term includes any fire or combustion which occurs in a chiminea, fire pit, outdoor fireplace or grill. 4) No open burning shall be conducted during unfavorable weather conditions such as high winds or extremely dry conditions; and
5) One portable fire extinguisher( 4-A) added to garden hose section.
6) Any person utilizing or maintaining an outdoor fire shall be responsible for any and all firesuppression costs and any other liability resulting from damage caused by the fire including fines.
Fires must be at least 15 feet from the nearest structure, neighbor’ s dwelling, or inhabited area, including:
• Property line
• Roadway
• Sidewalk
• Public access area
• Fires may be no larger than 3’ wide by 3’ long by 2’ high and must be attended at all times by a competent person at least 18 years of age and completely extinguished when not attended.

Did you know? One side of the park is along Hampton Township, another side of the park is along Ross Township, and a corner of the park meets at a corner of McCandless Township.
Patio wood-burning unit must be located at least 25 feet from the nearest structure which is not on the same property as the patio wood burning unit.
Burning Material: No material other than dry clean wood, propane or natural gas may be open burned except for:
• Commercially available fire logs, paraffin logs or wood pellets.
• Paper and commercial smokeless fire starters to start a fire.
• Charcoal for the preparation of food only.
Air Quality Action Days: Wood burning activities are prohibited on Air Quality Action days with the exception of burning for the commercial preparation of food.
