Dear Shaler Area Neighbors, haler area school district SHALER AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT NEWS

As the school year draws to a close, we are enjoying many meaningful moments that invite us to reflect on who we are and all we’ ve accomplished.
We’ ve just come together for our district-wide 143 Day of Kindness event, a celebration that pays homage to Fred Rogers’ legacy of kindness. Named for Mister Rogers’ s code for“ I love you”— 143, for the number of letters in each word— this annual event has become a beloved tradition. With student-led activities, vibrant moments of connection, generous community participation, and moving musical performances, the evening showcased the spirit of giving and caring that is at the heart of Shaler Area.
The strong character of our community has shaped our graduates. As they walk across the stage at commencement and collect their diplomas, they do so energized and equipped by the robust foundation they received in our schools thanks to their parents, teachers, and neighbors. To the class of 2025: you have our deepest congratulations, heartfelt best wishes, and unwavering support.
As we look to next year, our district will unveil the strategic plan we have been developing and implementing to strengthen instruction across all grade levels, subjects and programs. Through your participation and insight, we have reflected on our values, strengths, and strategies. This has enabled us to identify ways we can enhance the outstanding education students receive in our Shaler Area schools.
I wish each of our students, families, staff and faculty a refreshing and enjoyable summer, and I look forward to seeing each of our students on the first day of school in August!
Sincerely,
Dr. Bryan O’ Black Shaler Area School District Superintendent

Dear Shaler Area Community Members,
The end of a school year is always full of big emotions. Our students are excited to“ level up” to the next grade, our teachers must say goodbye to the students they’ ve gotten to know so well, and parents are getting ready for a familyfilled summer break. Even our administrators can enjoy a brief but well-earned pause before they dive into the work of preparing for next year.
As we look back at the 2024-25 school year, we have many reasons to be proud of what our district has accomplished, many of which you’ ll see on the following pages. In addition, recent security upgrades demonstrate our ongoing dedication to ensuring student safety. I am also grateful for our school board’ s commitment to updating curriculum and facilities throughout the district, which will help us provide the best possible learning environment. All of these“ behind the scenes” decisions are made with the best long-term interests of our students, faculty, and community in mind.
Thank you to our teachers, administrators, and staff for all you do to help our students succeed, to my fellow school board members for caring so much about the future of our district, and to our greater Shaler Area community for constantly supporting and encouraging us all to do our best for the students and families who are proud to call our district home.
Have a great summer,
James Tunstall President Shaler Area School District Board of School Directors
