Tax Information— The Federal and PA Income Tax filing deadlines are Wednesday, April 15. Visit the Library’ s website at www. shalerlibrary. org for valuable information on tax forms and tax assistance. Basic tax forms from the state and federal government are located in bins outside of our entrance( by the automatic door) for 24-hour access. We print one copy of less common tax forms for free. Join members of the Embroiderer’ s Guild of America who will be working on the Pennsylvania panel of the America’ s Tapestry for the national“ America 250” celebration. Stop by to see the tapestry, talk with them about their work, and learn about the project.
Soup Tasting FUNdraiser— Sunday, March 8 at 1:00 p. m. This popular event brings our community together with a fun, family-friendly gathering to taste a variety of soups made by our friends and neighbors. You’ ll get to vote on your favorites. Our Second Annual Friendly Family Bake-Off— Saturday, March 28, from 2:00 to 3:00 p. m. Bake your best cake or cupcake! Prizes! Great fun! We ask that each family include one child under 18 and one adult over 18. If possible, please bake enough of your treat to share with 30 people, but no worries, we will have extra treats! National Drug Take-Back Day— Saturday, April 25 from 10:00 a. m. to 2:00 p. m. In conjunction with the Shaler Township Police Department, the library will serve as a collection site for any unused or expired prescription or overthe-counter medications and vaping cartridges in an environmentally safe way, as a drive-through in the library’ s rear parking lot.

• History Matters: The Battle of Homestead— Friday, March 20 from 1:30 to 3:00 p. m. Join Jerry Fitzgibbon, a volunteer and docent at the Pump House in Homestead and member of Rivers of Steel, for an engaging program on an important part of Pittsburgh’ s past, the Homestead Strike of 1892. Please register.
• Orchids 101— Tuesday, March 24 from 1:30 to 3:00 p. m. Join Demetria Marsh, Co-President of the Orchid Society of Western PA( OSWP), who will de-mystify the growing of orchids; show several types of orchids in bloom; and talk about the history, the botany, and orchid growing culture. Phipps Conservatory passes raffle too! Please register.
• Allegheny County Park Rangers: An Introduction to Archaeology— Friday, April 10 from 1:30 to 3:00 p. m. We will explore the archeology in and around our parks. Learn about how the Americas were inhabited; common tools utilized by American Indians; and some of the most important archaeological sites in our area, including in our Allegheny County Parks. This program is free but registration is requested.
• Spring Book Vase Workshop with the Shaler Garden Club— Friday, March 20 from 6:00 to 8:00 p. m. Make a beautifully refreshing floral book vase to display in your home!
