Shaler Area School District to Receive $ 50,000 in Funding for Dynamic Classrooms
The Shaler Area School District is receiving $ 50,000 for its “ Young Learners Need Choice ” program , which will provide collaborative tables , flexible seating options , and learning centers for K – 3 classrooms at Burchfield , Marzolf , and Reserve primary schools . The grant is part of $ 213,000 in Gaming Economic Development Tourism Fund ( GEDTF ) grants announced by Senator Lindsey M . Williams ( D-Allegheny ) and Representative Lindsay Powell ( D-21 ) to projects that will benefit Shaler , Etna , and the surrounding communities .
Senator Williams expressed , “ I am proud to have advocated for funding to improve classroom environments for our youngest students so that they can better focus on learning .” Dr . Sean C . Aiken , Superintendent of Schools , shared , “ We are always seeking to innovate ways to serve our students better . These funds will benefit our students , creating more engaging classrooms that will catalyze learning .”
A Rich Community of Learning
Mrs . Barbour and Mrs . Miller collaborated to provide lessons to students at Reserve Primary on celebrating our differences . Students read The Crayon Box that Talked by Shane DeRolf . “ We are a box of crayons , each one of us unique , but when we get together , the picture is complete !” The students drew beautiful pictures together , each adding different colors and different ideas to make their pictures complete !
Student Ambassadors Program Equips Students with Leadership Skills
Education is about developing a broad foundation of skills , this includes fundamentals like reading and arithmetic , and extends to people and problem-solving skills .
Student Ambassadors at Shaler Area Elementary School are learning and practicing leadership skills . The Ambassadors are student leaders who spearhead service projects and other school-wide initiatives . Greg McDonald , a local State Farm agent , donated funds to the SAES Ambassadors to purchase golf shirts that identify them as a SAES leader .
