SHALER’ S LINCOLN BENNIE EARNS EAGLE SCOUT RANK
Lincoln Bennie of Shaler Township earned Scouting America’ s highest rank when he successfully completed the Eagle Scout Board of Review on April 1.
The son of Craig and Palma Bennie, Lincoln led a team of youth and adult volunteers in planning, constructing and placing two Pet Supply“ Little Libraries,” much like the little book libraries or roadside food banks in many communities.
The two libraries Lincoln and his team constructed have been placed in Stoneridge Park and Upper Fall Run Park.
This clever Eagle Scout Service Project allows pet owners who may have fallen on hard times to be able to acquire food and other supplies for free, while others in the community can help their neighbors by donating surplus pet supplies to the libraries.
A junior at Shaler Area High School, Lincoln has been involved in a number of activities throughout his 16 years. Multiple sports, marching band and scouting have all shaped who he is today.
He is passionate when speaking of the impact of scouting, and understands that the value in becoming an Eagle Scout is not simply the goal but the journey itself. He views the rank not as an end, but a transition to the next phase of his young life.
After spending time at Scouting America’ s High Adventure Florida Sea Base, Lincoln’ s passion for marine life has grown. He would like to attend one of the many New England universities specializing in marine biology.
Lincoln credits his time and leadership opportunities with Troop 138 in the Japeechen District for his drive to pursue this life goal.
