• Savor the Story of Theo of Golden for ages 16 +— Sunday, September 13 at 1:30 p. m. A special program that brings the novel to life through food, creativity, community, and conversation. $ 12 per person.( Note: the library will be open for this event only.)
• Paint & Sip: Love Your Library Night for Adults 21 +— Friday, September 25 at 7:00 p. m. Girls’ night, couples’ night, creatives’ night— it is so much fun to support your SNHL. We provide the supplies and snacks— you bring your favorite beverages. $ 25 per person.

STAR PARTY at Denny Field( 1198 Anderson Road)— Friday, September 18 from 7:30 to 11:30 p. m. Join us for a night under the stars! Members of the Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh( 3AP) will guide you through an evening of celestial discoveries. Whether you’ re a seasoned stargazer or a curious beginner, come explore the cosmos; ask questions; and enjoy a fun, educational event for all ages. Bring your own equipment, lawn chairs, and snacks. NATIONAL DRUG TAKE BACK DAY— Saturday, October 24 from 10:00 a. m. to 2:00 p. m. Officers from the Shaler Township Police Department will collect expired and unused prescription medications and vaping materials in the library‘ s rear parking lot. No registration needed.

• Shaler Garden Club presents Introduction to Landscape Design— Tuesday, August 25: SGC Business Meeting starts at 6:30 p. m. Program starts at 7:00 p. m. A good garden is more than just plants. Join Claudia Bernardo as she shares the basics of landscape design. Learn how to create beautiful, functional gardens, whether starting fresh or redesigning, inspired by her pollinator-friendly native plant garden and her work at the library. Please register.
• Summer“ Reads” Book Group— Wednesdays: August 26 & September 30 at Ellen Hughes Park( 3225 Greenfield Rd. Glenshaw 15116) from 6:30 to 8:30 p. m. Get ready to read and unwind together as summer comes to a close! We’ ll chat with each other about what we are reading, read silently for a bit, and enjoy the outdoors. No registration.
• History Matters: Exploring Local History and its impact on people’ s lives— Fridays from 1:30 to 3:00 p. m. o September 11: The History of Blawnox Borough— Tom Powers, president of the Lawrenceville Historical Society, will discuss how the borough of Blawnox developed along the Allegheny River out of the 1867 planned community of Hoboken. The Blaw Steel Construction Co. built its factory there in 1912 and greatly changed the community. Tom’ s book celebrating the borough’ s 100th anniversary in 2025 will be for sale. Please register. o October 9: Pittsburgh’ s Historic Stadiums & Arenas— From the earliest pro football and hockey teams, to groundbreaking facilities like Duquesne Garden and the Civic Arena, Pittsburgh has led the way. Local historian Mark Fatla documents the history of Pittsburgh’ s professional football, hockey, and basketball venues. Mark will share dozens of historic images. Books will be for sale. Suitable for ages 16 +. Please register. o November 6: World War II in Pittsburgh— WWII officially ended on September 2, 1945. On this date, representatives from the Allied powers and Imperial Japan signed the official Japanese Instrument of Surrender aboard the battleship USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay. Join local history buffs to learn about the living conditions in Pittsburgh during the war and how the end of the war began the Pittsburgh“ Renaissance.” Jim will put a“ local” spin on this significant global time period. • Botanical Colored Pencil Classes— Mondays: October 12 through November 16 from 6:00 to 8:00 p. m. Build or expand your drawing skills with teacher and botanical illustrator, Robin Menard. No experience or special skills are needed. Limited class size and $ 50 instruction fee payable upon registration.
· Owls of Pennsylvania with the Allegheny County Park Rangers— Friday, October 23 from 1:30 to 3:00 p. m. Our favorite Allegheny County Park Rangers are back to talk about the 8 species of owls that are found in Pennsylvania. Owls have long captured our imaginations because of their mysterious nocturnal activities, unique adaptations, and overall cuteness. Join Allegheny County Park Rangers to explore the owls that call Pennsylvania home and the special abilities they use to conquer the night. Please register.
